Six Week Detailed Lesson Outline Montessori Homeschool Preschool (Montessori 3-6)

I shifted a bit with my planning after then end of the 2020/2021 school year. There are two (unrelated) changes: embracing year round homeschooling (which I was basically already doing!) and prepping further in advance. Up until this point, for both “Tot School” and the first year of the 3-6 Classroom, I have been doing a Yearly Outline and then planning in more detail for each quarter. I then prep for the next couple weeks which has turned into as I need it… Between prep and trying to follow the child, I feel like I can’t catch my breath. I decided to take a step back, ask what other Montessori homeschool parents as well as Montessori homeschool educators do, and then shift. The consistent answer was to prep/gather materials 6 months in advance.

In order to shift, I planned for the next six weeks in detail. Then I looked at the next six months in my scope & sequence for each subject as well as the next couple of periods (all in my detailed tracker). I looked at my list of items needed for year two (both DIY and to purchase) and ordered what I needed (mostly) for the next six months. I still have a few things to grab. I am being a little indecisive with our shelves, have not yet ordered the beads I need (I decided I probably wouldn’t need the first bead materials until later in the fall at the earliest) and I am spreading out purchasing the readers I am curating.

Here is my lesson outline for each week over the next six weeks (plus a little look ahead of that):

The last two weeks are not fully planned out above. In addition to this I am thinking of doing a fall theme in October, a Thanksgiving Focus in November, Advent for December, and Antarctica Unit/Winter Unit January.

I will prep to be ready for “spontaneous reading” as early as September 13th but it could be as late as October. Or later? Follow the child, right? To be ready for the next steps after the moveable alphabet, I need a simple chalkboard, object box 1, activity words, puzzle words and beginning reader books. I am also working on a fun game for the language objects from box 1. For more information about our language sequence, check out this post.

After prepping for future language work, I will shift my focus to the math sequence. I have the sandpaper numbers but need to DIY Spindle Boxes, Cards and Counters, Golden Beads, Large and Small Number Cards, and the Colored Bead Materials. These materials will probably start mid/late fall. I wont need most of it until later this school year. More details in this post.

Next I will plug this into my bullet journal along with a list of to-do’s and DIY to prep. My goal is to be prepped for the next six weeks in two weeks? We shall see how it goes! Wish me luck.
